At the heart of Derbyshire is the Peak District. Rambling paradise – Walkers Heaven
I say Walkers heaven simply because those that i managed to stop and talk to along my flying visit were simply in heaven and who can blame them. The Peak district is just short of being the closest thing to nature. Derbyshire reminds me of North Devon in a way but for some reason it’s much more earthy if words were to make sense of this sensation it’d be like comparing two courses of a winter warmer. Derbyshire being the lamb shanks and Devon a rice pudding! Not that rice pudding is needed to complete the meal but who would say no to rice pudding. On the subject of food…
In the heart of Derbyshire lies Bakewell and one would not be mistaken to think of a place lacking tourisn, in fact it is often tourism that makes such a place a place to avoid! Bakewell buzzes with a mix of local activity with the seemingly interuptedness of hiking boots ambling about.

Peacock Inn Bakewell Derbyshire
There are 5 main Inns all providing accommodation but it’s not for the want of an ideal location but for practical purposes Bakewell exists. A thriving hot spot for tourism with a healthy (dare I say affluent) population of locals. Go 8 miles in any direction of Bakewell and you’ll encounter a different story of success and it’s not just because of the 2008 – 2009 recession.
I’m not suggesting for one moment that you venture around Bakewell and you avoid Bakewell but it is suggested that should you feel the need to discover more rugged and fitting scenery akin to the Peak District maybe places like Youlgreave should be considered. And should you consider these place you’ll have a choice of 3 Inns, I said 3! For a small village maybe 3 Inns is simply too much choice, of the 3 the one I fancied was closed and lets hope it’s seasonal… The Bull Head Hotel and The George Hotel both looked great places to stay.
In the opposite direction to Youlgreave you’ll find Tideswell, another great place and as you approach this village you’ll pass by the Monsal with the ravines tempting you in for a walk.
