The transformation over the last 5 years of the British hotel and inns industry is a clear indication that we like new and modern over old and traditional. Not surprising then that the old traditional inns dating back centuries have given themselves a spring clean, not just a lick of paint but a complete overall.
Boutique inns as they are becoming known as are giving Premier Inns, Travel Lodges and Holiday Inns a real run for their cut down price money!
However, the penny also dropped with the strategies deployed with the old English taverns and pubs, instead of refurbishing why not build next door to the old and by adding something new we have the best of both worlds.
Why is the jury still out when we have the best of both worlds. Price is always a good starting point, you want to stay in luxury accommodation and pay contractor rates, it just isn’t happening. When branded accommodation starts to compete with one another it can effect the quality of the stay from all angles. Hidden prices from breakfast included to not being included and an extra £10 for a rasher of bacon and fried egg. Where do we draw the line and say ‘just give me a nice room and charge me what is right’, well the truth is we can’t say this and it happen. The laws of supply and demand rule.
Currently cheap is good and cheap will get you good quality accommodation, but what is cheap £30 a night? £80 a night for two? You see, it’s not so clear.
The 4 main rivals for good quality accommodation are in no order alphabetically (had to say that, Lord Sugar said in on the final of Junior Apprentice, silly Lord Muppet).
Holiday Inn
Jurys Inn
Premier Inn
Travel Lodge
These are the 4 main contenders for cheap accommodation with good quality rooms but this is why the jury is out, and for 1 reason only. The alternative to the top 4 can be extremely more expensive and not as good or the same price and really bad in comfort. O did I miss out comfort inns.
